Noah Lomax: Meet the Star of Disney's 'Secret Society of Second-Born Royals'
Curly chestnut locks, golden brown eyes and light freckles are the striking features belonging to young American actor Noah Lomax, star of Disney’s Secret Society of Second-Born Royals. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Noah grew up in the South relocating with his family to Atlanta when Hurricane Katrina devastated the area. Local to Suwanee, Georgia ever since 2006 Noah has grown up on sets with actors like Laura Dern, Andrew Garfield, Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Hillary Swank and more.
Homeschooled from 3rd to 8th grade, Noah began acting from a young age. “Ever since I can remember I can’t remember not acting,” he recalls. “My first gig was Army Wives and I barely remember it. I remember watching it though. All my memories on set are my best memories. I’m so lucky. I wouldn’t change a thing.” Interestingly enough, Noah wasn’t the first one in the family to step onto the stage.
“My sister started acting first,” The Secret Society actor explains of older sister Maddie. “We were at the mall and saw a Suite Life of Zack and Cody poster. She did that for a few years then went into dancing.” He goes on to talk about their experience acting together. “We got to play siblings on The Walking Dead when she was 9 years old and I was 8. We had the best time on set. In between scenes it was funny to see all these zombies eating lunch, playing cards and just hanging out.” The two went on to play Munckins the next year in the The Wizard of Agni, a Wizard of Oz-inspired mockumentary directed by Ken Feinberg.
Thanks to a supportive family Noah was able to focus on his acting dream. In 8th grade he enrolled in high school to play football and lacrosse and has been in public school since then. “My parents wanted me to be grounded and around friends my age and have always been super supportive. My mom actually quit her occupational therapy job to support my dreams,” he shares with a tone of overwhelming gratitude. Well-mannered and well-spoken with major titles to his name it is clear that Noah’s parents’ dedication paid off.
Although acting at a young age has its benefits it also has its share of ups and downs. “When you’re in the industry you get told no more than yes,” Noah elaborates. “Sometimes you want to take a break when those things happen. No one gets recognition for 2nd place for a role. There’s no silver medal. You just have to keep working harder.”
And work harder he has. Noah’s IMDB is filled with blockbusters in film and television every year since 2009. From his start on Army Wives to The Walking Dead in 2010, to two television series in 2011: The Middle and Mad Love, to Playing For Keeps with Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel and Dennis Quaid in 2012, Noah has stayed busy his entire career. He starred alongside Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough in Safe Haven in 2013, then guest starred on Bones in 2014 while simultaneously filming 99 Homes with Laura Dern and Andrew Garfield that same year. In 2015 it was the The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, then 2016 was a major year with three productions including Little Savages, Brave New Jersey, and a TV Pilot called Heartbeat. In 2018 Noah worked with Laura Dern again on two films The Tale and Trial by Fire. All of this along with keeping up his studies playing sports and growing up in Georgia. Noah Lomax is a force to be reckoned with and he’s just getting started.
“Laura Dern and I have done three separate films together to date. I’m super close with her and good friends with her kids. She is someone I can always talk to. She’s down to earth and committed to getting our chemistry natural.”
Of course, there are always those projects that truly resonate. “I would have to say I am most proud of the film 99 Homes because of how it makes you feel. That’s what a good movie is—it makes you feel.” Noah conveys.
When asked about his experiences on major productions as a young star, Noah has very positive memories. “100% every set I’ve been on everyone treats me like a professional. I always had a lot of freedom. The cast, crew, the family you get on a long shoot…it’s an experience that stays close to your heart.”
Although it’s hard to imagine there is anyone Noah hasn’t yet worked with he does have a short list. “I’d love to get to work with Christian Bale, Joaquin Phoenix, or Leo DiCaprio. I’m a big fan of Heath Ledger too, I would’ve loved to work with him.”
Right now, Noah is focused on the present. A student at Savannah College of Arts + Design his life includes studies, exams, playing hockey in an unfinished basement and staying grounded despite the current state of the world. “Thankfully my last film, The Secret Society of Second-Born Royals was filmed in Toronto before quarantine. Unfortunately the premiers were canceled. But it just released on Disney+ last month.” In the film his character is a drummer which was something new for Noah. "I play the drums now too because I learned on set, I had no prior experience but picked them up quickly. I started a garage band with friends and have been playing ever since.”
Whether it’s acting, football, hockey, playing the drums or lacrosse Noah Lomax’s talent knows no bounds. Yet at the end of the day, it’s primarily acting that is the focus.
“It’s something I always wanted to do. I want to act as long as I can. I’ve also been very fascinated by Directors of Photography and always connect with them on set. One day in the future I would love to do cinematography.”
